What is humanity

Watching the news on the screen of my phone

Seeing division, exploitation, and destruction

What should I do, what could I do

While they are dying of hunger

And I wander in the endless aisles of wealth

Feeling hopeless, feeling useless

Knowing that a humankind

Can be so cruel,

even though were meant to be so kind

Because what is that of a human

To applaud for mass destruction

while preaching for peace

Seeing cities vanish,

hold peoples homes under a siege

Draw lines in a ground

that was created as common

Just to divide and separate

one from another

What is that of humanity

To dress up like kings and queens

while the clothes are maid of tears

To pretend we do not know

So we do not have to care

To enslave surrounding forests and seas

to own endlessly more

While actually losing everything

that was in life’s core

I do not want to recognize this greedy being,

playing an almighty in a world,

which was meant to be so beautiful, so free

If that is to be a human, I am endlessly ashamed

Wishing us too see

It is ourselves that should be blamed
